Social protection policies and programmes hold immense potential for improving the nutrition situation of vulnerable populations. To ensure that these policies holistically combat malnutrition, a nutrition-sensitive approach needs to be employed in their design and implementation.

Early Childhood Nutrition

Good nutrition is the bedrock of child survival and development. Well-nourished children are better able to grow, learn, play and participate in their communities. They are also more resilient in the face of crisis.

Adolescents nutrition

India is home to 253 million adolescents (10 to 19 years) and we stand with them at a crossroad between losing out on the potential of a generation or nurturing them to transform society. As adolescents flourish, so do their communities, and all of us have a collective responsibility to ensure that adolescence is an age of opportunity.

Maternal Nutrition

Women have distinct nutritional requirements throughout their life – especially before and during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, when nutritional vulnerability is greatest. Ensuring women have nutritious diets and adequate services and care is fundamental for the survival and well-being of mothers and their children.

About Sp4N

The concept of social protection aims to address vulnerabilities faced by various groups and communities through assistance, insurance and fostering greater social justice and equity.  Social protection and nutrition are intrinsically linked by the fact that poverty coupled with social inequity is the root cause for hunger and malnutrition in South Asian countries like India. SP4N secretariat work will involve mitigating vulnerabilities faced by individuals and groups through facilitation of assistance and insurance (through other agencies) as and when required with emphasis on social equity and promotion of social justice.
